Henry III - Class 5b1, 5b2

Class 5b coins have R type 1 in contrast to the ball-shaped R2 of class 5a.  Busts are normally large and oval, thogh they can be smaller with a more pointed chin. The crownband is often more curved than that of class 5a. As with 5a, eyes are round, oval eyes being a feature of class 5c.

Class 5a is sub-divided into 5a1 having half fleur crown ends (quite scarce), and class 5b2 which has the normal pellet crown-ends.  Class 5b2 coins are amongst the commonest of the Henry III long cross series, though the ones with short-cross style C and/or E on obverse or reverse are scarcer.
