Class 2a pennies, characterised by initial mark type 2, were minted at London, Canterbury and Bury only. Moneyers as follows: London: Nicole (Nicholas of St.Albans), Canterbury: Nicole, Gilbert de Bonnington and William, Bury: Ion (identity unknown). Coins with five hair pellets,"5HP", under the crownband are probably earlier than those with three hair pellets, "3HP".
Class 2a was struck from very late in 1247 or January 1248 through to the spring of 1248; so only a short period of three to four months.
