Call for steering committee members: Inclusive numismatics
We are a group of people inspired (and slightly obsessed) with the study of, and engagement with numismatics. We are also keen to broaden the field of numismatics and create opportunities for all to engage with coins, banknotes and medals. To this end we have secured funding by the Royal Numismatic Society and the support of the Bank of England to run a conference tentatively to be held in September 2023 in which we will explicitly seek to create a welcoming space, and deliver financial support for voices for all in numismatics. We have an explicitly inclusionary agenda to hear from women, people of colour, those from the LGBTQ+ community and anyone who has a passion for numismatics, but has not necessarily found that existing forums for sharing their study, research or work have been the right place.
We are seeking people who want to make the field of numismatics a more inclusive space, and who want to change the field to be part of our steering committee. This is an open call any anyone in the UK from any career stage, type of work, or interest in numismatics who is welcome to join us. We’ll hold meetings online so travel is no barrier.
Please complete our expression of interest form by 10 Feb 2023 if you are keen to plan and deliver this conference.
The current steering committee is Jenni Adam, Amelia Dowler, Eleanor Ghey, Megan Gooch, and Clare Rowan. We are seeking up to 5 additional members.
