Reference: See Dr John Talbot’s Made for Trade: A new view of Icenian coinage (Oxbow 2017) . This book brings order and clarity to the coins of the Iceni where previously there was numismatic chaos and confusion. His single most significant contribution to this delightfully idiosyncratic series has been to establish the denominational groups; they were always there, but were recognised by John when he conducted a 10,000-coin die study, which revealed and decoded the symbols and design quirks which linked issues of gold staters and gold quarter staters and silver units and half-units with each other to form denominational groups. |
