This is a beautifully designed quarter stater, the dies of which were clearly cut by an expert engraver. The name-tablet and two chariot wheels link it numismatically to Sego’s full stater, ABC 441. The well formed horse seems to be jumping over a rising sun and is ornamented by vegetal scrollwork, not unlike that seen before the horse on Andoco’s gold stater, ABC 2715). Short vertical lines under the exergual line are normally associated with coins of the Iceni (ABC 1444) and Corieltauvi (ABC 1734; Rich Type 4a, 4b, 5d, 5f, 9a, 12b, 16d, 18a, 18b, 19a). This important coin was found by metal detectorist Richard Norman near Faversham, Kent, in September 2017. ABC 306 - PAS: KENT-61E19D. An Iron Age gold quarter stater of Dubnovellaunos (c.20 BC-AD 5) of the Cantiaci. Dubnovellaunos yoke type dating to the period c.25 BC - AD 5. Obverse: plain, slight banding. Reverse: Horse right, yoke above. ABC (2010) no. 306. Measurements: 12.60mm in diameter, 1.89mm thick and 1.34g in weight.
