The mint started production in January 1642/3 in a building in Minster Yard.  Four denominations were produced at York, halfcrowns, & other denominations (shillings, sixpences), and threepences. The city's coins are unique among Civil War issues for the quality of their die-engraving; many were produced on a rotary press.
