The Coinage of Offa and His Contemporaries

The Coinage of Offa cover

This study of the coinage of King Offa (757-96) and his contemporaries by Derek Chick presents a complete catalogue of the first broad silver pennies struck in southern England before 796.

With 728 coins, fully described and illustrated, this work contains almost three times as much material as the last major study on Offa's coinage published fifty years ago. It also sets out a new classification for the series, with several new moneyers and many new types. A comprehensive die study provides the basis for statistical tables estimating the number of dies used in the coinage. This volumes also reprints two important articles on the coinage of Offa by Mr Chick, as well as tables and indexes to facilitate the use of the catalogue.
